Letrozole advice

Hi everyone

I’ve been taking letrozole for a few months and my blood sugar levels have gone up significantly. I know Estrogen plays a role in pancreas health and insulin resistance but I’m not sure if there are any supplements l can take to avoid ending up on Metformin. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you deal with it?

  • Hi TraceyAnne,

A very warm welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you have noticed the changes in your blood sugar since you've been on Letrozole. You are best to discuss this with your consultant or specialist nurse. There are other hormone therapy tablets that can be given, but you may have similar problems with these. We are usually advised not to take any supplements or alternative medicine before discussing this with your care team, This is because some of these products can cause a reaction with cancer medications.

I am a type 2 Diabetic and I took Tamoxifen for 1 year before changing to Letrozole for a further 6½ years. I had a number of different side-effects, but my sugar levels stayed stable throughout and I'm still her 16 years from diagnosis.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. This frum is a learning curve for all of us.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
