Cancer of the Oesophagus

My partner of 33 years had cancer of the Oesophagus last year and had an operation to remove the stomach and oesophagus which is an extremely serious operation  and in hind sight I can see that it was not emphasised enough how much he needed to take time to recuperate. He started going on long walks far too soon and I think he exhausted his very shocked body he never picked up                       strength and then had a bad fall in the garden which further shocked his depleted body and a month later developed a bowel obstruction and pneumonia which ended up in Hospital where he never really recovered due to a gross lack of proper nourishment and care.

I visited him every morning and afternoon until he gave up

  • Hi Keeling,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your partner and would like to send my condolences. It sounds like you have been through a very tough time, and it must be so difficult especially if it feels he didn't receive appropriate advice and care.

I can see you have received a reply from another member of the forum on your other post. I hope that the forum can be useful for you - we're always here whenever you may need it, even if it's just to write things down.

We also have nurses available if you'd like to talk things through at all. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
