Am I the one in the wrong?

Hi

My cancer has worsened. My boyfriend doesn't help me in.the house. He expects me to do everything on my own.

All I am getting from him lately is relationship videos highlighting lack of sex. I just feel so tired all the time. He just doesn't seem to comprehend that my cancer has worsened. He has acrually asked me to get another CT scan to prove it even though he sat in on my results. I just feel like he doesn't care about me at all, just sex. I'm at the end of my tether with him & just want to end things.

  • Hi, and I'm sorry your cancer's worsened and this is going on at the same time. Has your boyfriend always been this way, or is this unusual for him? I ask because some people struggle with the thought of their loved ones becoming ill and I'm wondering if this is following a pattern for him or if he might be in denial? Especially as he's asking you to get another scan. Would both of you be open for going for counselling? This is only if you feel there's something to save in this relationship, of course. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/coping/mental-health-cancer/where-to-get-support/counselling-organisations is  a page that lists places you can contact for counselling, if that helps.I'm so sorry this is happening and I hope you can get some help with this. Take care of yourself.

  • He's gotten worse lately. He's holding a grudge against me as I wasn't well today ( IBS flareup ) & let him down so he's sulking and accusing me of using excuses. I was 3 hours in the loo today & he doesn't believe me  I think he is in denial about the cancer, what I need is support and he's just making my life hell. My stomachs in knots. I did counselling at his request  He will not do counselling at all.

  • I'm sorry you're going through this and trying to cope with your illness too. I think you've taken a sensible step by going for counselling about your relationship, even if he is unwilling to attend. A qualified counseller, who has been able to have a proper discussion with you, should be able to guide you to make a decision you can feel comfortable with. I hope you can resolve this soon, with their help.
