What a difference a word make

Had my first follow up appointment yesterday with   MacMillan Nurse.  She has made a note of all the timescales for the 5 year follow up.

What a difference words make. Her paperwork  said bowel cancer  before that ir was rectal.tumor.

Bowel cancer sounds so much worse than 'Rectal Tumor'!

Apparently it is currently a 10 month wait for a reversal.

  • Hello MrsBlueSky

I'm glad to hear that you had your first follow-up appointment yesterday and that you now have some time frames to work with regarding follow-up and, hopefully, a reversal.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that bowel cancer sounds so much worse than rectal tumour. The term rectal tumour simply means where in the bowel the tumour is located, in this instance, the back passage. Bowel cancer is a more general term for cancer that starts in the large bowel (colon) and the back passage (rectum). It is also sometimes known as colorectal cancer.

Hopefully, over the coming weeks and months, things will settle, and you'll be able to find a way to move forward in readiness for a reversal.

Don't forget that if you'd like to talk with one of our team of nurses at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
