  • Hi Kezah,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

As someone who has had 2 bouts of breast cancer and 1 of pre-cancer, all within a year from diagnosis, I can tell you that the way you feel is perfectly normal. You had a huge shock with diagnosis and probably felt rushed through tests, surgery and reconstruction in a very short time. You have come through all this over the festive period, when so many people were celebrating, which, I am sure was the last thing you felt like doing. Now that you feel it should be all over, you're beginning to discover that we never "get over" a cancer diagnosis, we just learn to live with it. We become anxious at the possibility of cancer returning and the uncertainty of this disease.

You will find that you gradually come to terms with it over the passage of time. I was diagnosed 16 years ago and had a lumpectomy. Six months later I was diagnosed with pre-cancerous lesions in the other breast and a year after my initial surgery, I discovered a second cancer in my original breast. At that stage, I had a double mastectomy. It has been a challenging journey but I have developed a more positive outlook with time, as it is the best way to cope. I hope that you will find it easier in time too. Please feel free to join us all here, as we support one another and remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
