Cold cap gloves and socks

Hi all

Have completed 3 sessions of chemo for breast cancer.am starting EC in 2 weeks,my question has anyone any experience of. the cold gloves and socks?I have already lost my hair but I want to try and minimise  the chances of neuropathy. Any advice would be much appreciated

  • Hi, rileymmca - I had some mild success with gloves during my treatment. I'm not sure this site will allow me to post a link, but if you go to a certain popular shopping website and type in "neuropathy gloves", you'll see a few options. Although I didn't go for fingerless ones - that would have been counter-intuitive, I think. My main takeaway with neuropathy was to constantly feed back to my oncologist as to how severe it was, as dosages might need to be lowered so as not to cause lasting damage. And it was a bit worse in cold weather - keeping a pair of gloves next to the fridge seemed a good idea. It took a long time after treatment to go away completely, but go away it did.

  • Thank you Luke1971.Im absolutely  at a loss with this stuff.would you recommend. using them

  • In my experience, yes: any kind of gloves help - whether it has to be special compression gloves: who knows? I remember walking my dog once when it was quite cold, and I found that I couldn't touch the metal bit of the lead without gloves. Also getting stuff out of the fridge or freezer could be quite tricky. So I'd make sure you have a pair to hand - but, as I say, the main thing is that you feed back to your oncologist/nursing team regarding how extreme it gets, so they can adjust the dosage if need be.
