It's back again

Tumor in my bowel in Jan 2025. Panproctocolectomy surgery performed and recovered well. Had 4 cycles of chemotherapy - CAPOX.

Back with consultant in Nov and ended up with biospy on a dodgy looking bellybutton. Tested positive for cancer. Following CT, PET scan and MRi showed cancer spread to outer lining of the liver, womb, Ovary & I'm sure there were other places but can't remember.

Surgery not possible.

12 cycles of Fluorouracil (5FU) is being given. I start the 1st week of January.

Is the 5FU really strong? When did the hair loss begin or does it happen for everyone?

I got through CAPOX with a strong faith and praying family and friends, I know God will carry me through this time too.

Thanks

  • Hi, friendlyface - I had fluorouracil as part of my FOLFIRINOX regimen - which included oxaliplatin, which I see you're familiar with - and I don't think it caused my hair to fall out. It's very thin and I wear it short anyway, but all I could notice was slightly slower growth. I hope that's helpful. You've already been through a lot and you sound very strong. Wishing you all the best with it.

  • Thanks for the "hair" insight.

How'd you find the oxyplatin? It was part of the CAPOX for me. I just couldn't tolerate the cold.

So thankful this chemo allows me drink cold water again - simple pleasures of life.

So far cycle 1 wasn't too bad. Bit of nausea and shoulder pain. Cycle 2 starts in 4 days... Back to carrying the bottle around for 48hrs.

Praying you are on the road to recovery.

  • Bless ya: I'm fine, thank you. Final dose was a couple of years ago. I think that oxaliplatin is vile but, from what I can gather, hugely effective. I couldn't believe - when I was on it - that its weird side effects would ever go, but they did. Glad your first cycle wasn't too bad. You can definitely do this!
