Anastrazole

I have been on Anastrazole for 6 years now. The last few months I have suffered with dry mouth and mouth ulcers and sore lips. I have sprays, gel, mouthwashes and gummies. But nothing seems to help. During chemo I had painful mouth ulcers. I now have tooth loss and chipped teeth I am 73 so could be aging but does Anastrozole cause periodontal issues ?

  • Hello Silverdays

I'm sorry to hear that for the last few months you've been struggling with dry mouth, ulcers and sore lips. It sounds like this has been quite an uncomfortable time for you and it must be frustrating that the treatments you've tried so far haven't improved things.

Have you spoken with your GP or dentist? If not then it would certainly be a good idea to make an appointment with them to get things checked.

The problems you've described aren't listed as being side effects of anastrozole but that that's not to say that the medication may not be playing a part in these issues. You could always request an appointment with your breast specialist to see if it might be an option for you to take a break from the medication to see if things improve.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I do hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
