Post mastectomy right side chest wall irradiation six month wait

Emailed my lead clinician twice now for advice.
No reply as yet.
In this area (Sussex) radiotherapy services are in crisis.

Purpose: to mop up cancer cells in the skin, chest wall or nodes under the breast bone, I imagine. (Axillary nodes were clear)

I'm prepared to travel as I think if you have to wait six months, that shop will probably have sailed!!

The three districts in the NHS that are not in crisis will be overwhelmed, I'm sure

Anyone gone private for this?

  • Hello plantswoman

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been through surgery for breast cancer. I hope that your recovery has gone smoothly and that you're feeling well in yourself.

It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about the potential long wait for radiotherapy. You mention in your post that you've contacted your specialist but have had no response as yet. It's also worth getting in touch with the breast care nurses to chase this enquiry if you've not already done so. Alternatively, you can contact your hospital PALS team. It's part of their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses for some support and advice, you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you can get this problem resolved plantswoman and that the rest of your treatment goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
