Worried about starting Chemoradiotherapy combined and its side effects. I have stage 3 cervical cancer

I have just been diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 3, having PET Scan this Thursday but im a bit worried about how invasive radiotherapy will be and all the side effects. Will i be bed ridden during it and after it. I will have to go to court sometime in December and im worried i will be too ill to go.

  • Hi Pawsiebear51,

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your PET scan tomorrow. It's a lot to take in after being given a cancer diagnosis and I wanted to share with you the information we have on our website on cervical cancer. We also have more details on stage 3 cervical cancer and on treatment for cervical cancer including on chemoradiotherapy and an in-depth section on radiotherapy for cervical cancer.

I hope this gives you a little bit of useful information on what to expect from treatment and its possible side effects but if you wanted to talk things through or ask any questions, don't hesitate to give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer your questions and to listen. You could call them tomorrow if you want to talk to someone before you have your PET scan.

It might be worth asking your specialist or medical team whether the treatment will have an impact on your ability to go to court in December - I am sure they will be able to tell you more on this so don't hesitate to get in touch with them as they know your medical background and diagnosis best so they will be in the best position to give you an accurate answer.

Wishing you the very best of luck for your scan and for the start of your treatment. You are going through a really stressful time at the moment and I wanted you to know that we are here for you and that you are not alone. I hope that you will hear from others who have had the same treatment before and that they will pop by and say hello and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
