Kidney Cancer

I took unwell in February 2024. Attended the doctors, where I was diagnosed with suspected gallbladder problems. Was referred to ultrasound, waited 4 months for an appointment, to then had to attend a hospital 60 miles away because my local NHS was overwhelmed. Got diagnosed with cystic renal disease and renal cancer.

Because my dad had been diagnosed with renal cancer shortly after being diagnosed with dementia, the consultant decided a partial nephrectomy waa in order

I had my operation on the 30th December 2024, in Glasgow. Staff were amazing, can thank them enough ️ ️

Have had concerns that the symptoms have returned, to be told that I've had a major operation and thats what I should expect . Any advice?

  • Hello Ang4173

I'm sorry to hear about your previous diagnosis of kidney cancer and cystic renal disease. It sounds like it's been a really difficult time for you.

We have some information about kidney cancer on our website that may be of help. Do talk again with your specialist cancer nurse about how you're feeling. Hopefully they can offer some reassurance or arrange for you to see the Consultant if necessary.

In the meantime, I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat things through with one of our nurses as well. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you can get some support and reassurance with the symptoms that are concerning you. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
