Breast Cancer

2 days ago I had a mammogram, ultrasound and core biopsy. The dr & nurse told me I’m showing a 5 on the scale 0-5  highly suspicious of cancer diagnosis. I had an inverted nipple got 10 weeks so this has came as a shock. They’ve told me it’s early detection and the lump behind nipple is 1cm. I’ve now to wait for results - do I have breast cancer? I was in shock so didn’t ask questions. How long before I get my results?
any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

  • Hi Jackie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are waiting for results.  The mammogram and ultrasound you had will have shown the lump and the size of it, but cannot detect whether or not it is cancerous or benign. The biopsy is what determines whether there is any cancer present. The staff at these clinics are working with cancer day and daily and can often spot it on mammogram or ultrasound. This is why you've been told that yours is highly suspicious. I am sure that this has come as a terrible shock, but it does give you a little time before you get your results to think of any questions you may have. It is a good idea to write these down and to take your list to your next appointment, as it is all too easy to forget something important. Waiting times vary from one centre to the next, but the average time is about 2 weeks.

I hope that you'll get the results before too long and that all turns out well. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
