Bowel cancer

Does anyone still suffer with Diarrhoea 14 years after surgery

  • Hello Frixington,

eleven years in and l still have flare ups every 2-3 weeks typically settling back down within 24-48 hours, When they come it feels like the bowel just gets irritated and inflamed and just kicks everything out until it empties. l then get a day free before returning to a more solid stool. That has improved from the first five years of constant movements of up to 40 loo visits each day. At least now l can amble back to the little boys room with full control having lost the need to compete with the latest 100metre mens sprint world record

If you go in, remove and disrupt a carefully put together whole that worked in a perfectly synchronised movement, you can hardly be surprised to be left with a less than smooth running piece of kit

As my consultant said just before stoma removal, we will rejoin the bowel and you will be back to the "New you" which l have embraced and lived, sometimes through, every moment of it, and remain an extremely lucky boy,

  • My worry is that it is very yellow and sometimes just like a tap running.  I have seen a doctor and been referred to a hospital consultan but that are running behind.so thinking I might go private but the earliest I can get an appointment is 6/9. People keep giving me things I should eat but I am on toast three times a day. My daughter suggested plain rice with apple sauce so tried that at lunch time and waiting to see what happens. Than you for replying

  • Hello again,

l vary between yellow and bright orange which l put down to excess bile having had my gallbladder removed from liver resection from secondary metastis.

l find l do not have trigger foods, it just throws it out there before returning to normal. Hopefully you will get sorted, but do not stress in the meantime, because there is a fair chance that would trigger more side effects,
