Prostate cancer got into bones. So far, so good but how long will it be until things start changing and I start feeling ill?

Diagnosed just over a year ago aged 84, (psa 300) too late for chemo or radiotherapy, prescribed hormone  therapy  = 12 weekly shot of  zoladex.  Now cancer is into bones so take a small dose of morphine every 12 hours.  A steroid pill  in the morning puts me in great spirits.  PSA dropped to 12 after 4 months but now it has risen to 90.   Apart from sweating and tiredness I’m get out every morning to have breakfast with friends in nearby restaurants, cafes, museum etc. 13 months ago my doctor felt I’d be ok till Christmas.  Oncologist recently repeated a similar period.  I’m feeling very positive and upbeat.  I mix with “jo public “ as a volunteer at the museum.  Walking is proving slightly more painful but I have a stick and 4 wheeled trolleys plus an electric pedestrian buggy when walking becomes very limited. Prognosis . . . .how long til I start feeling ill?

  • Hi HPETER,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you are feeling positive and it sounds like you have lots of interests to keep busy with.

It's a little difficult to advise on your question but of course do keep in touch with your doctor with any questions.

I can see you have also posted elsewhere on the forum and received some replies from others, which is great. I hope that the forum can be helpful for you, in terms of writing things down and reaching out to others.

    Best wishes,

    Ben
