Lung cancer

Hi, I was diagnosed with cancer in both lungs last week. I am breathless going upstairs and have a dry cough a few times a day. Was referred to my cancer doctor as this is secondary cancer. 4 years ago I had breast cancer her2+ mastectomy and preventative chemo and herceptin jag. No information about how bad it is from a doctor just hand an appointment for oncology and told stage 4. No curable but maintainable. Its not in my liver or bones. I would like to know has anyone else experienced this and what treatment was given. Thanks

  • Hello Louise1966

I'm sorry to hear that you were told you had secondary breast cancer in both lungs last week. It's understandable that you may be feeling overwhelmed by this news.

I'm presuming from your post that the specialists believe this secondary is related to your previous diagnosis of breast cancer. If this is the case, then you may find it helpful to have a look at some of the information we have on our website about secondary breast cancer, which includes some information about treatment options as well.

If you think you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses before you meet with the oncologist, then you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They will also be able to help you think about any questions you want to ask at the appointment. If you'd like to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment Louise1966 and that the specialist can give you some reassurance. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
