Pneumonectomy then chemotherapy

Hi all,

After having my Pneumonectomy 7 weeks ago all has been going well but now I’m onto the next stage, I met with oncologist yesterday to discuss further treatment more as a belts and braces approach as they got all the tumour out thankfully but it was much bigger than first thought at first it was thought 4.4cm but after turned out to be 7.5cm, so anyway the oncologist is putting me on Carboplatin and vinorelbine to start in the next couple of weeks, what I’m wondering has anyone else had this duo and how did it go for them and any tips that may be useful would be greatly appreciated. I am feeling quite nervous due to all the horror stories, I know it’s not going to be great but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hello Mirtle

I'm sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with lung cancer. It's good to hear that you've already had your surgery and that the team are confident that all the tumour was removed. I hope that your post-op recovery has gone smoothly.

We have some information about carboplatin as well as about vinorelbine that may be helpful. Do make sure that you tell your specialist nurse or the oncology team about any side effects you experience so that they can make sure you are well supported to manage things.

Hopefully, some members who have experience with these treatments will pop along to share their stories with you but you can also use the search function at the top of the page to look for the drug names if you think it may help to read through some previous posts.

We also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call to chat things through with as well. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things go smoothly for you Mirtle. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
