Schwannoma monitoring.Advice please

I was diagnosed with Follicular NHL 2 years ago(enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes Grade 2) and am on active surveillance.,which involves 4 monthly bloods and a telephone consultation with the haematologist. My MRI scan  at diagnosis also indicated a sciatic schwannoma measuring 3.3 cm and further issues which have led to a diagnosis of Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis for which I am under the care of a neurologist.I have had no further follow up on the schwannoma, and was told to' not worry about it.'

I have increasing tingling and stabbing in my groin where it is situated.I haven't  had a scan for 2 years and am worried it is getting bigger.Of course I realise the symptoms  could be MS related, or my NHL, although my bloods have been normal so far. I'd  love to hear from anyone with a similar diagnosis of schwannoma and if they are being monitored?

  • Many thanks
  • I'm sorry for the worry your current symptoms are causing Happywalker. This must be a very stressful time.

As you've mentioned you haven't had a scan for 2 years, maybe you could have a chat with your GP and see if you can get referred for one. Hopefully the results will be able to give you some much needed answers and peace of mind.

I've had a look through the forum but I couldn't find anyone posting about schwannomas recently, however, if you give our team of cancer nurses a call you can get their thoughts and advice on your situation. If you'd like to speak with them they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

You may also be able to get further information and advice from a charity called Nerve Tumours UK.

I hope this helps Happywalker and you're able to find out the cause of your symptoms soon.

    Kind regards,
