Over 50, overweight and breast cancer

Hi all I had left breast lumpectomy and node removal in December. I have been taking letrozole last couple months and and on day 2 of 5 sessions of radiotherapy.
I have put on weight during this process and want to lose some weight as the letrozole is having an effect on my joints and I figured it would help to be fitter.
I’m also over 50 so dreaded menopause has also contributed to the weight gain.
where do I start? I’m not one to excercise and my office job location is rural with no where to walk

  • I'm sorry to hear about the weight gain you've experienced since you started your breast cancer treatment and the menopause.

I hope this information we have about exercise and cancer and how you can be more active can help you get started but if you're still finding it difficult, don't hesitate in reaching out to your family and friends as it can be much easier to get in to exercise with the support and encouragement of loved ones.

Quite a few of our members have found this difficult as well, so you are not alone Mummymartin, and hopefully some of them will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon.

I hope this helps Mummymartin and that your treatment continues to go well.

    Kind regards,

  • Anastrozole for me, a very similar tablet. I put on two stone in a year and really struggling to shift it. Slimming world, calorie counting, upping exercise are all things to consider. I'm on Facebooks 'UK breast cancer support group - for sufferers and survivors', some on there have resorted to seeing their doctors for help. It's a nightmare, especially when knowing it's important to keep to a healthy weight.
