Grrrr need anger management

Hello folks, just need to have a vent..I hope you don't mind.I have Stage 4 inoperable esophageal cancer.3 wks ago saw Oncologist who looks about 17 and have difficulty understanding. He said CAPOX & Hercrptin 4 cycles should start in 2-3 weeks. This week on Monday I happened past the Cancer ward as I was in the hospital for an Echocardiogram and asked if there was any news on a start date.Oh they said someone should have been in touch you start Cycle 1 on Wednesday at 9am.

By then it was too late to book a taxi so in the end they booked a taxi for me.All good but annoyingly I felt " dependent" as they wouldn't let me drive myself for Cycle 1 but I was told I would be ok for Cycle 2 if all went ok.

This morning up at 6am, organised dog and puppy so they would be ok for a few hours. At the hospital for 08:30 ready to go into battle.

Got sat down nurses did BP etc and I waited....yes you've guessed it ...pharmacy didn't get drugs ready and " someone" should have called me yesterday to stand me down. I then waited till 2pm to be picked up by Ambulance just little old me to be taken home on a frankly bone shaking journey. Got home to dog pee etc had to steam clean kitchen floor before I could sit down.

On top of this the ward Sister told me " oh no you won't be able to drive yourself for Cycles 2-4 because Oxyplatin can cause laryngospasm so it's too dangerous.

I haven't even started my battle and I'm feeling very fed up already... have even left a *** off message for my " team" who seem to have left me since I was diagnosed " inoperable" saying get it sorted.( Not my normal approach)

But honestly WHO IS " Someone" who is supposed to do things anndd... doesn't.Whoever s/he is they're costing the NHS a fortune ️

End of rant

Thankyou for reading x

  • All these annoyances are experienced by everyone visiting hospital. The NHS is at breaking point many of the staff are burnt out through overwork. So be kind and courteous to them they do their very best to care for you. Id say an ambulance home is pretty good service, it would be 3 changes of bus where I live or a £22 taxi ride.

It is worth heeding their advice on not driving, to be safe for others and not invalidating your insurance,

Im glad you had a rant here because it is good to let off steam. I hope you get a good run soon where everything goes to plan and that your treatment is effective.

Thanks Ed I know exactly what you mean because I trained as a Nurse in 1976 and retrained to be a theatre ODP ( anaesthetics) aged 50 and worked my b*m off for 6 years before retiring. I KNOW what pressures the NHS is under believe me .BUT I have also worked in the financial corporate sector and sometimes just being sweet and kind isn't enough these days you have to be process orientated and efficient. This is where the NHS has to change. My experiences this week showed in stark reality that " for want of a nail..." One person's omission caused others to have to work twice as hard and also cost the NHS quite a few £'s.Nuff said.I just had a very miserable time and needed to vent...so Thank you.
