How to tell your children?

Unfortunately I have diagnosed with stage 4 brain tumour of which getting to a year would be an achievement. I have a 10 and 11 year old who only know I have a cancerous brain tumour.
I am about to start treatment and all I want know whether I need to tell them

1) that this thing will kill me. - they know I have a cancerous brain tumour but nothing else. Would you tell your child that it will kill me but you will fight it?

2) do you tell children prognosis? Worried they will freak out but if I drop dead dead will be upset I didn’t prepare them?

had anyone got any advice?

  • So sorry to hear your news.  I don't have any particular experience of this sort of situation but I wonder if: organisations like Daisy's Dream / The Ruth Strauss Foundation would help?  Also your care team are likely to be well versed in your sort of situation and could perhaps advise accordingly.
