Radical Hysterectomy - struggling with the after effects. Can anyone give me some advice/tips?

Hi everyone, I’m new to this group and after some advice. Having never missed a cervical screening and being at low-risk of cervical cancer, I was diagnosed with exactly this on 19th March, stage 1b and I have just last Friday 25th April undergone a radical hysterectomy.

I’m now home (day 5) and feel absolutely terrible. My stomach is swollen and sore and my movement restricted. My bladder was not emptying properly so I’ve returned home with a catheter for one week and am have to go back to hospital next week, I’m absolutely devastated and in tears as I write this message. I’m so worried that this bladder problem may be permanent.

Has anyone had this surgery and what advice can you give me please? Any tips? I know it’s very early days and it’s going to be a long recovery but at the minute, I’m struggling with the after effects, I feel like I have a pallet of bricks is sitting on my stomach. I’m struggling to drink and eat and the catheter is very uncomfortable.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

  • Hi , I had surgery like yours, post catheter had bladder leaks as well. Its not perfect but alot better now . My surgery was 2 weeks before Christmas, and radiotherapy end of February for 5 weeks. Keep drinking fluids , and drink some more. Sit on 2 cushions one under each cheek and 1 under both of those but going up your dack a bit. It helped me , then u used a post partum ring cushion sometime as well
