Looking for advice of alternative treatments that can be used alongside medication

My wonderful mother in law has high risk multiple myloma blood cancer.

It is not curable and can only be managed for so long. She wants to do everything she can to suppress it for as long as possible and is looking for alternative treatments to do alongside her medication to help boost her chances.

The problem is there is just so much information our there! She has bought books that are very confusing and there is so much information that contracts each other, like fasting for example.

If anyone (especially with multiple myloma) could point us in a direction of alternative treatments or any tips/ dos and donts at all I'd really appriciate it. we will of course look jnto it further to ensure its the right course for us.

Love to all of you effected by cancer xx

  • Hi April197 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear your mum's myeloma is not curable but hopefully her medication will be able to keep this under control for a while yet.

You can find out more about complementary and alternative therapies on our website, but we would recommend discussing this with your mum's medical team first as they will be in the best position to advise, and let you know what is safe to try alongside the conventional treatment your mum is having.

You're welcome to discuss this further with cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. but you may be able to get more information and advice from the charity Myeloma UK

I hope some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon and in the meantime, we're sending you all our support and wishing your mum all the best with her treatment.

    Kind regards,
