How to cope with my partner having cancer

My partner has been. Diagnosis with hodgkin lymphoma. I am finding it difficult to come to terms with what is going on. Trying to support them.  I find it difficult at work as most people are telling me that he will be ok etc and that god is with you and god is testing you. I have no believes in god and they do not know what the further holds. I just want to cry all the time and I am not strong enough for this.

  • Welcome to the forum Simna, although I'm sorry to hear your partner has been diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Receiving such life changing news can be very overwhelming so how you're feeling at the moment is completely understandable, and natural too, so do try and be kind to yourself at this very challenging time.

No doubt you're experiencing a lot of emotions right now, but I hope this advice we have for family, friends and caregivers will be useful.

If if would help to talk things through with someone, you can give our team of cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very understanding and will do all they can to support you.

I'm sure some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon as well but in the meantime, our thoughts are with you Simna and we're sending all our strength and support your way.

You are stronger than you think you are Simna, and with us by your side, we will find a way through this, together.

    Kind regards,

  • I am very sorry to hear this.  I agree with Steph about you being stronger than you think. There will be really difficult times ahead but you will get through them - even if that's difficult to believe at the moment...I would say get together an action plan of things you can do to make yourself feel better and try not to think too much - I've found that can be fatal!  Best wishes
