Is there any useful alternative to imatinib

I have had Gist cancer for 9 years and it is now not working so well . Does anyone know about an alternative drug

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Ziz, although I'm sorry to hear your medication has started to become less effective.

As you can see on our website, there are possibly two other options that may be available to you: Sunitinib (Sutent) and Regorafenib (Stivarga).

Your medical team will be able to tell you more but if you'd like to speak to one of our cancer nurses about this in the meantime, they're available on 0808 800 4040. They're very well informed and will do all they can to answer your questions.

I hope this helps and that you hear back soon from some of our other members who have GIST cancer as well.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank you so much for your reply . I am so worried at the moment because I have taken a v low dose of imatinib for 8 years and now I have been asked to increase the does because the cancer is spreading but this makes me feel ill . Got my next oncology appt soon . So just got to wait . Nothing new about that but this time things seem v serious .
