Free breast prosthesis on nhs

Hi .   Would anyone be able to offer some advice.
my mother had her breast removed approximately 25 years ago she’s 85 now . She has regularly bought new prosthesis breast forms for her bras and swimsuits . Today she’s been for a fitting for new ones as she’s lost lots of weight and was offered one at £180 .   Does anyone know if she can get them either free or at a reduced price .    She can’t afford to pay that .

  • Hello Ronyag12

We have some information about breast prostheses on our website that may be helpful.

If your Mum would like a new permanent prosthesis then her GP should be able to refer her to the local breast service for this. If your Mum would be happy with a more lightweight or temporary prosthesis then she might like to consider getting in touch with an organisation such as Knitted Knockers. I believe from previous posts that I've read here on the forum that M&S also sell lightweight breast forms.

So there are lots of options that your Mum could consider and hopefully she will find the right prosthesis to make her feel comfortable.

My best wishes to you both.
