Colon cancer stage 4

Hi All , I’m a newbie. A year ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer and was told to watch and wait with regular check ups etc. then in December 24’ found out is metastasised and spread to the liver. I have 4 large tumours on the liver too large to remove at present so had my 1st chemo of oxaliplatin and capecitabine. With plans of surgery later on. I’m just grateful that I’m still here and there’s people with worse conditions than me. I have a positive mindset and imo that’s half the battle.

  • Hi its good that they believe there's a chance you could have surgery at a later date ,hopefully the tumours will shrink to allow this ,did they do watch and wait back then for a particular reason ,a friend of mine is on a watch and wait after they found something on his lung with scans every 3 months ,you have a great attitude I'm sure it will help a lot ,I hope all goes well .

  • Hi ,they did a watch and wait bcos of negligence. They removed a cancerous ploly but didn’t tattoo its location. So they didn’t know exactly where to resection the bowel. Hence It’s spread before any treatment was given. But I’m not crying over split milk, moving on swiftly. It’s a long road so no point to make the journey harder than it already is.

Re your friend Im not saying nhs are no good but sometimes they work at a pace where they need it to get worse before they’ll treat it for obvious reasons financially.
I advise myself first and foremost than anyone else on here. Don’t give up there is light at the end of the tunnel even if it feels a dark place. Yes it is but WE ALL GOT THIS !!!

  • Yes as soon as he said he agreed to watch and wait I kind of thought to myself if it was me I'd have rid of it which I must admit they gave him the option of , I agree putting more energy into getting through these trying times rather than worrying yourself sick is far better energy ,they do actually say a positive outlook really does help and also fresh air and exercise I guess .

  • Jenny ,

Are they starting treatment for your friend? It can be very difficult for those caring for someone with cancer. It’s the name Big C. But you also need to be positive to help him. Keep your spirits up. Easy said than done I understand. Do the things u enjoy and live life as normal as can be.

  • He's not a close friend so I don't know the ins and outs I only know what he's revealed ,I know its been going on for around 6 months  and he will get 3 monthly scans which I expect if anything changed he would have surgery then ,watch and wait must work for some  otherwise they wouldn't do it .

  • Diagnosed with bowel cancer that has spread to liver a month ago. 10 mets on liver and nothing operable now so chemo has to work…. Have had one bevaticizumab and Folfox, 5 to go and then scan again. Staying as positive as possible but definitely scary with two young kids….

  • Hi Eve ,

I feel you. If you don’t think too far ahead and take it in your stride it will become easier. Day at a time. Good luck with everything.
im in a similar situation as you.
hope is what’s keeps us going.
