Lung cancer small cell

My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer 13months ago .He had never been ill and has never smoked .He is getting treatment which seems thankfully to be going well .But it's his mental health that is worrying me and there doesn't seem to be a positivity group to contact. We have asked .Does anyone know anywhere .

  • Hello Evertonfan

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. It's good to know that treatment is going well but understandable that his mental health may be a struggle with all that he's been through.

I'm not sure where you are in the country but it's certainly worth checking to see if there is a Maggie's centre in your area. I know many forum members have found their centres to be a place of great support and positivity. You might also want to have a look at the Penny Brohn website. Whilst they are a charity based in Bristol they offer support and services to people all over the UK.

It may also be that your husband could talk with his GP about how he's feeling. It's not uncommon for people undergoing cancer treatment to struggle with low mood and this is something that the GP may also be able to help with.

If either of you would like to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any information and reassurance they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that treatment continues to progress well and that you're able to access some additional support.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi its all most as if we start getting more confident something goes wrong .We where so shore are latest visit to the consult would be good news .but it wasn't. The cancer has now started growing in a different part .They all so how healthy he is and he's gained all his weight back .I just need some positivity from people going through the same sort of cancer

  • Hi, I was diagnosed with secondary lung cancer almost five years ago, two years after chemo, radiotherapy and surgery for oesophageal cancer in 2017. I have herceptin immunotherapy every three weeks, the next one will be treatment number 81!

I am 76 this year and lead a normal life. I am convinced that having a positive attitude, and a supportive partner plays a massive part in being able to live like this. You can both do it. John

  • Thank you for your reply .thats great to know your doing well take care x
