How do you cope with the pre-scan nerves to find out how your treatment is going?

I get  nervous before ultrasound scans and seeing the consultant, when I know I will get to know how well treatment is doing in shrinking my breast cancer tumour.  How do others manage it?

  • Hi. I have found breathing exercises before appointments and scans very helpful. I also take myself to another place in my head when having scans.

    Using a "mantra" ie repeating a calming word in my head works too eg seashore.

    For appointments I write down any questions beforehand. Be aware that there is little the consultant or nurse haven't seen before and they will take this into account.

  • Thanks.  That was useful and I did try some of your suggestions before my last appointment.  They had some success but obviously get better the more you practice them
