Nearly 8 years on from Oesophageal, 5 from secondary lung cancer. Enjoying life. Chat if you want.

I have a great life and am 75 years old!  John

  • Hi John, just wanted to say hello, as noticed you haven’t had any replies yet.  It’s actually my hubby who has cancer – prostate ongoing, but did have upper lung lobectomy 2 yrs ago to remove two ‘ground glass opacities’ unrelated to prostate.  Fortunately they were detected very early.  So far so good as regards recurrence of that, but he’s currently partway through his first experience of chemo for the prostate cancer.  He’s also 75.

Glad to hear you’ve managed to survive oesophageal and secondary lung cancers and are now able to enjoy life again, although I expect you’ve had to make a lot of adjustments to your routine as regards eating.  Best wishes.

  • Hi,

thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts and events. I have actually had conversations with one person, but think this may not be put on general release! I don’t really know how the site works. I just thought, (as I like writing!) and have had a bit of experience with this Cancer thing, that I’d join in…one reason being that so many people feel understandably frightened, especially shortly after diagnosis. Hoped my situation might extend a bit of hope to those folk who are having a difficult time, that may seem hopeless.  John

  • Thanks for your reply John.  Yes, it's good to know that there can be light at the end of the tunnel, especially these days with more and more treatments becoming available.  I don't know how the site works either - that was my first posting on this forum.  I'm more familiar with the Macmillan forums, although even they can be puzzling at times!  Kind regards.

  • Hi John,

I enjoyed reading your post and like you, feel that I have a good life. Lived with breast cancer for 28 years, lung mets for nearly 2 years.

You sound positive and I feel that's really important. Hope this finds you well.

  • Hi John, It's good to know you are having a great life after what you've been through. I am 75 also and had an oesophagectomy 11 1/2 years ago. My problems I supposre relate to eating because I have no sense of hunger or thirst, I eat all day bits and pieces and have lunch and dinner most days. My weight seems to stay fairly stable so I just carry on the way I am.

  • Thanks for writing, and wow! Over 11 years is some achievement! Such a shame about the eating and drinking though, I reckon I must have got lucky on that score. If anyone reading is recently post-surgery, then I may have a tip to offer regarding taste, drinking, and eating. We are all different I know, but whether it was co-incidence or not that I didn’t lose all or any of my sense of taste who knows?
My best wishes to you, and no doubt you are aiming for another 11 years or more! I hope so. John.

  • Not everybody gets a lack hunger or thirst but it's not such a problem as long as I eat at regular times and little and often. The main thing is I am still here enjoying my grandchildren and life
