No more surgery

Hello iam a 62 year old woman who has had Cancer for over a year now, I had a full Nepharectomy, ( Kidney removed) and lymph node, however there is still Cancer present in my Paraortic Node and my own surgeon has referred me to another hospital 3 hours away, he said the operation was too complicated for them. My gut instinct is too not have this surgery, iam not a nervous person and have had various medical procedures before, I just feel it’s not right for me.  I have a husband who says it’s up to me, I have no  family or children. I can still have  treatment too slow down the spread of the Cancer in the future. Even with surgery, the Oncologist has said it will come back , so is it just buying more time.

  • Hello Choccylab62

I'm sorry to hear that you find yourself facing the decision about whether to have more surgery. It sounds like you've had a lot to deal with and that you've already begun to weigh up the pros and cons of this complicated surgery.

There is no right or wrong answer about choosing to have or not have this surgery. What's important is that you make the choice that you feel most comfortable with.

Do talk with your healthcare team about your thoughts on this surgery. Hopefully whatever choice you make they will be supportive.

If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

Whatever you choose Choccylab62 I send you my very best wishes,
