surgery v radiology

I have a telephone appointment with a physcian next week.   Decisions to be made by me.   He/she is going to advise the best course to take as my scan showed borderline following discovery of a small tumour on top of my pancreas.  Two physcians said - OK to go for surgery, two physcians said - not sure.    One radiologist said good to go, second one said - not sure.   Anyone out there been in that dilemma?    For myself I would prefer surgery to get rid of tumour as opposed to radiology which simply halts growth and only lasts 12 months at best - apparently.  I have just finished 4 months (12 sessions) of chemo.   Bit brutal but necessary,   Tumour has shrunk away from a major blood vessel, which is the good news.

  • Hello Elizabethofdarters

I'm sorry to hear that you've been undergoing treatment for a tumour on your pancreas over the past 4 months. I'm sure that this has been a difficult journey at times and, understandably, you want to make the best decision for you when you talk with the specialist next week.

Having conflicting information/advice can make it more difficult at times to decide what may be the right course of treatment for you. It may be an idea to write down the pros and cons for each option ahead of your phone call next week. I wonder if you might also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can along with helping you think about any questions or points you might want to raise with the specialist. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that whatever you choose to do regarding treatment things progress well for you. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
