Male infertility

Hi, It’s been 15 years from my first diagnosis, and 10 since last occurrence. I was given 9 months to live in 2009, I’m a brain tumour survivor, I’m trying to find about getting a sperm count test, for the purpose of determining if my sperm is viable. I have had lots chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the years, and need to find out so that my present partner doesn’t get pregnant, or I will have a vasectomy (pointless if I don’t have viable sperm). Spoken to my doctor and he insists the NHS won’t do it.
Any advice would very grateful

  • Hello dkingvr6

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through previously with your health. It's understandable that you don't want any more unnecessary procedures if you can avoid them.

Have you spoken with your local sexual health clinic to see if this is something that they may be able to give you advice and support with? You should be able to get their contact details from your GP surgery or your local health board's website. If they're unable to help with testing then they will certainly be able to help with contraception options including a vasectomy.

I hope that you're able to find the support you need.

    Best wishes,
