Hair loss - how to cope?

I’m 3 weeks into my chemotherapy and whilst I knew I would lose my hair, the reality of it literally falling out f my head and very very quickly has floored me.  Has anyone got any advice for dealing with this?

  • Hi my hair fell out during my chemotherapy I got a wig but think I've only used it a hand full of times. I bought some colourful bandanas off amazon and got some given off macmillan. It was hard at first but then my family kept telling me it will grow back and it has started to grow back already

  • I shaved mine off last Thursday I took the control back as it was really getting to me seeing it fall out and hair every where. that was me 3weeks after my first chemo appointment. I got two wigs one from Amazon and one SHEIN and beanie hats.

my advice is just go for shaving it, you will feel so much better when it’s gone x

  • Hi I lost my hair during my chemo and I like you knew it would happen but the reality was heart breaking, I found just having it all shaved off was much better than watching it fall out and wish I had done it sooner ,It was hard to shave it and took a few days to get used to but once off I felt much better one less thing to worry about,, I did not go for a wig but bought lots of colourful beanies which were great I am 8 weeks since my last chemo and have a light covering of hair now, good luck on what you decide is best for you x

  • Thank you.  So good to know I’m not alone.  Took the plunge and shaved it this morning!

  • We’ve got this ladies!.
    how are you feeling now?

  • Hi - I’m into my 4 course if treatment and have been using the cold cap. In preparation for my treatment I took my hair out of lose plaits and noticed a lot of hair had come out which is very worrying to the extent, should I stop having the cold cap treatment and just cut my hair short in preparation. I have been up all night worrying about this and cannot sleep. Is anybody else have the cold cap treatment with their chemo treatment?

  • I have just gone through this and head bands scales and hats work well I got a variety from Temu etc and went out with a wig for the first time last night. Very daunting but worked and lots people were wigs for all sorts reasons. It is something to adjust to but it temporarily. Big hugs

  • Hi, my hair started falling out during chemotherapy which I really struggled with. I started cutting it shorter in the hope I could still save some of it. A week in, I shaved the rest off as watching it fall out was much more harder for me then shaving it. I ordered some bandana hats off amazon which were amazing. They provided so much comfort and I didn't feel as conscious with them on.

My advice is shave it as watching it slowly falling out is much harder.

  • Hi Chips thanks for your response. When I went for my appt I was encouraged to go ahead with the treatment which I did but still emotional. Yes hair still coming out - - Hoping it will slow down! Goi g to try a wig to see how it looks and get some bandanas/hats/scarfs as suggested. Thank you. x

  • Hi A_R_0809 - thank you for responding - yes struggling with it and everyday/week my hair seems different! I am coming round to shaving off or at least cutting it down really short and get a wig made up to suit my face. Thank you for responding. x
