Immunotherapy treatment

I’m classed as stage 3 B having had secondary melanoma in the groin.  No other cancer in lymph nodes or surrounding tissue thankfully. I was offered immunotherapy treatment but given the possible side effects, U decided to pot for observation and regular scans.  Spoke with my GP who wasn’t happy to hear that I wasn’t going to have the treatment. I was told that if the cancer did come back, it could metastasise itself onto numerous organs. I changed my mind on hearing this. Had my first treatment over a week ago abd have been perfectly fine since. I also met a lady who was having her final treatment and had never had any side effects that concerned her. This was the first time I’d met someone who has the same surgery as myself and was having the same treatment Pembrolizamab. They call it PEMBRO.

Sometimes we over think and worry too much and that’s understandable too. I can’t believe how good I feel now that I’ve started the treatment and know I’ve done the right thing for myself.
Immunotherapy seems to be the new hope for treatments for all types of cancers and the feedback from people I know is excellent and SO encouraging for all of us.

it’s not easy but if we could all try to stay positive and believe that we will do well, I honestly think that helps with our results.
Wishing everyone on this journey the very best of good luck. Xx

  • You’re awake early!!
Im pleased to hear that your oncologist is going to call you. As I said, it’s so important to keep him informed and I can’t bear the idea of you being so sick.
I’ve just returned to NI after being away on holiday.  Stayed last night with our daughter and family so not actually at home. Looking out, there’s fog so can’t see all the beautiful countryside yet. I’d prefer the blue skies if Spain.
Hope you are feeling better today.
    All good wishes. R

  • Hi Eileen,

Thinking about you all day and wondering if your oncologist was able to help you.   Please let me know.
    Best wishes,

    R

  • Thank you for replying you are very kind. He didn't phone me his understudy did and she said she will speak to him and ask him to ring me tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I will have answer tomorrow thank you

  • Thank you for replying Eileen.  So, tomorrow you’ll get the advice you need and I’m assuming that you’re already feeling happier that you’ve had people to turn to. I expect that today being Sunday allows your oncologist the day off. Tomorrow you’ll hear from him as soon as he gets the time.
please let me know how you get on. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
    All good wishes. R

  • Spoke to my consultant today tumor no change, got more treatment December but they have found nodules on my left femur so radiotherapy on that leg too

Told them about being sick given me different antibiotics sickness tablets to try

  • I’m glad you got to speak with your consultant but sorry to hear that the tumour hasn’t shrunk. All being well, things will begin to improve soon. I hope the new anti sickness tablets do the job. Try to keep going with the immunotherapy.  All good luck and best wishes xx

  • Thank you I am going to keep going with everything for my kids, grandchildren,my husband who does loads for me and for myself

  • Just keep positive Eileen   This immunotherapy drug is our way forward. If necessary change your diet. Eat brown seeded bread, brown rice. No more white bread or processed, packet foods. Loads of fruit and vegetables eg broccoli, sprouts, green veg.  Make your own vegetable soup. Stay healthy and positive. Be good to yourself. If you feel tired, stop and rest. We must listen to our bodies.  You can buy BOOST teas in M&S. Ginger and peppermint tea help nausea. Eat organic chicken if you can get it. Avoid red meat.
Like you, I intend to fight to the bitter end. My husband does so much for me but he’s never, ever done any ironing and I do not intend that he ever has to!!!

Please keep in touch.  I’m hoping to have my second treatment on Friday. Onwards and Upwards. We must battle on. Xx

  • I have been adding different foods slowly has I also suffer with IBS so needed to change my diet. I will keep updating , I hope your treatment goes well on Friday look after yourself has well speak swn x

  • I have been offered immunotherapy, Pembrolizumab and have been trying to decide whether or not to go ahead. Side effects seem to quite nasty. However having  the comments here I now believe I will accept it as most people here seem to think it is beneficial. Thankyou.
