A year ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma having previously lived for nine years with MGUS. I started treatment last November and had some serious issues with infections and fatigue. I had a few hospital visits during this time to sort me out.
In July this year I had bad diarrhoea and contacted my nurse for advice. She thought it best I come in to hospital some tests. I had an x-ray but doctors thought best to have a scan. This showed a tumour in my bowel and stomach. It was a total shock for myself and my family. My haematology consultant just couldn’t believe it either. He arranged for an urgent colonoscopy but that didn’t show a tumour but he was very concerned about the ones in my stomach which he said was a:secondary and with the bowel clear they didn’t know where the primary was. An ultrasound scan eventually showed that it was stage 3 Ovarian cancer which has spread into my stomach and pelvis. My Myeloma treatment has stopped for now and luckily is in remission although I was still getting treatment . am now on chemotherapy and after the third session I will get a scan to see if it is possible to operate. If so they will remove my ovaries, spleen, part of the stomach, part if the liver and part of the bowel. They have looked after me so well and I have a wonderful network of family and friends to support me.
I know all of you on this site will have similar stories and I send you my very best wishes for a good outcome.
