Stage 3 oesophageal cancer, at the top of the gullet

Hi.  Is there anyone out there who had a tumour at the top of the gullet?  I have had chemo and radiotherapy but am currently suffering with side effects from that radiotherapy, including excessive saliva.
Struggling to manage the saliva as too thick to swallow.  Currently being fed through a stomach feeding tube and struggling to drink properly.

Advice welcome

  • Big hugs. My mum had this cancer and I have seen first hand what you are describing. She wasn't fed through a tube though.

I used to get ideas from a group on here, there's loads of tips, I read through pages perhaps a moderator can point you to that.

A stent helped my mum but also if you haven't already there are tablets that can help to make the mucus less sticky and also anti histamines. My mum had to push for ages before being offered the tablets.

My mum would drink coke which had sat out for a bit and water which were ok.

My aunt also has this cancer, and was tube fed, ill ask if she has any other tips.

  • Hi Maggie

If you search for RayB at the top of the page, there are many posts from a group that have had this type of cancer, there maybe some tips on there, maybe you could reach out to one of the group for advice.  I know that I have seen Milly post on the forum in the last few months, her husband suffered from it, she may have some ideas.

Good luck with finding something that helps.
