Grade 2 invasive ducal carcinoma

3 weeks post op lumpectomy with sential lymph nodes removed , wow what a rollercoaster ive been on  the last 2 months , started with having a rash and pain in my breast waited for a few months as doctors never seem to have appointments, but finally went and got referred all the usual test done told it was nothing to worry about as no lump felt and heck biopsy results came back and diagnosed grade 2 invasive ducal carcinoma , lots more tests done and things inserted into breast . Today went for my follow up appointment the cancer has not spread to lymph nodes and good clear margins , only problem now is my boob is huge so ended up having it drained , same again next week ,. Now just waiting to see oncologist and then due for radiotherapy and to start letrozole , not looking forward to side effect from them .
sometimes feel very lonely but on the whole try my best to stay positive for my family , but it’s hard as I lost my mum 5 years ago to breast cancer and also 2 of my work colleagues the past 2 years so scared I am .

  • Hi Wallis,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am glad to hear that you have already had a lumpectomy. I am so sorry to hear that you lost your mum to this awful disease. I too lost my mum to secondary breast cancer, before I was diagnosed. I am sure that you feel very relieved to have got your post-surgery results today and to find out that you have got clear margins and no lymph node involvement. This is all great news.

It is not unusual to get fluid build up after surgery, which needs to be drained. I had a double mastectomy after my second bout of cancer and had it drained about 4 times. It does eventually dry up and will feel a lot more comfortable once this happens.

You need never feel lonely now that you have found this forum. There is always someone here who has had experience of what you are going through and we are always here for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. I was absolutely terrified when I was first diagnosed, but that was all 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Not everyone gets side effects and those who do are the ones who talk about it. I'm on anastozole and delayed starting it for a week as I was petrified of what I'd read about side effects. I had a very slight headache for two days and a fleeting visit of nausea (literally about 15 seconds) and that's it. I'm still early days, about a month. I'm a little stiff getting up but the menopause had already done that to me anyway. Radiotherapy is the same, some suffer some don't. I'm starting mine today so I'll soon find out. I know you're scared, I was filled with blind panic, its an awful thing to have to go through. It doesn't help that your mum passed either and I'm very sorry for your loss. Fingers crossed for no side effects and a cancer free future. Big hug to you x
