Invasive ductal carcinoma grade 3 breast cancer

Hi im 39, I started my first chemotherapy and immunotherapy today, was all a little emotional at first but I was OK, I still don't know how to feel about it all, I try to stay positive for my husband and children who are 2 and 8.

My mum had the same and it breaks my heart as she knows what I'm up against.

    A very big welcome to our friendly community. Well done for getting through your first chemotherapy and immunotherapy! An important milestone and it's normal that you felt emotional. Keep strong, I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma and that they will come and share their treatment experiences with you. 

    I am glad you have the support and love of your husband and little children by your side - the little ones will no doubt be bringing you a lot of comfort and joy (and mischief!) during this challenging time. I hope your mum is doing well now - having been through the same she will as you say know exactly what you're up against and I hope that you can confide in her and that she will be there for you for endless cups of tea and chats as you go through treatment. 

    I think we have an active member here  who has mentioned being diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma - have a look at their thread and feel free to share your story or they may pop up and say hello. I hope that you will get chatting soon here with others who have been affected by this type of breast cancer. It helps to talk to others who are in the same boat.

    Hi Barley24, sorry to hear of your diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma. It must be a difficult time for you especially with two young children . I too was diagnosed with grade 3 IDC in January and finished EC-T chemo on the 9th of July. I felt great anxiety while waiting for diagnosis, but once I knew it was cancer decided I couldn't go through moths feeling this way. I decided I was going to remain positive, continued eating healthily ( been a target member of slimming world for 8 years) and cut alcohol. I also have been walking 2 1/2 miles every day with my hubby. I completed my chemo with minimal side effects, apart from losing my hair. My last scan showed that the two tumours showed a good response to the chemo. Also a complete response in lymph node area (1 lymph node had been affected). I am now waiting for a surgery date, for a mastectomy and diep flap reconstruction in a few weeks. I wish you well on your journey moving forward. Feel free to ask any questions if you have any. Xx
