Diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. Currently waiting for result of CT scan.

I'm going through breast cancer for a second time. I have it again over 20 years later.  I had it in my fifties and have it again in my seventies.

I recently had a CT scan actually it was nearly a month ago. Is it usual to wait this long for a results of a scan? It's making me very anxious. Maybe it's a good sign as there doesn't seem to be any urgency?

  • Hello lavis. I understand how anxious you will be feeling as I too had a reoccurrence of lung cancer and waited ages for results, having been hospitalised with a spine infection during that waiting period, they were the ones who gave me my diagnosis.
I initially couldn’t start treatment till my spine issue was resolved as they were concerned that it may have been a mets to bone from the lung cancer I was waiting to be treated for.
I feared this would be growing and spreading during the wait for treatment.

if I were you I would contact your GP or consultant for an update. 4 weeks does seem a long time and they may be able to reassure you at least that things are in motion regarding what they planning on doing.

sending love and strength to you ahead of your journey x

  • I was dx with g4ade 1 ductal carcinoma in Jan 2008 (16 1/2 years ago). I was 40.

Surgery (WLE) and rads followed by 10 years of tamoxifen.  Had recon - including implants 10 years ago.

Had a check up for implants and they ordered an ultrasound and during that they found a lump.  Had a biopsy - I was sure it would be fatty tissue (Had that previously), however biopsy results confirmed 17mm grade 2 breast tumour.

I'm getting a CT scan on Friday (19/7) and go back to the breast clinic on 08/08.

I think timescales vary depending your your location

  • Thanks for getting back to me. I think you're right timescales do seem to vary depending on where you live. Everyone says if it was bad news they have got back to you quickly I'm not sure it's always the case..
