Synovial sarcoma lung cancer

I had operation to remove Synovial sarcoma from my left lung November 2023 , I go every 3 months for check ups, all's been ok at moment. What I find hard is before all this I was my mind was clear in my life, and now it's on my mind . trying to work and and having moments of deep thoughts, and colleges that do and do not understand, and when this happens I feel I don't have the right to be like this, then it makes me upset. I'm sat in my car writing this , thinking what am I doing..

  • Hello Eric-

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and surgery last year. It's good to hear that you're seeing the team regularly for check-ups and that you're doing well.

What you've described in your post is something that many people will experience after a cancer diagnosis. Please don't feel that you're not allowed to feel overwhelmed or upset about things. Receiving a cancer diagnosis can leave you experiencing a wide range of emotions and this can impact your mental health both before, during and after treatment. You might find it helpful to read through some of the information on our website about cancer and mental health

Some people start struggling with their mental health after treatment. This might be because you have less support from the hospital or friends and family. You might also have more time and space now to reflect on your experience as you are no longer in ‘survival’ mode.

It is not unusual for others to think you’re OK once treatment has finished. They may not understand your current emotional state and the psychological recovery that you are about to begin.

Some people worry that their cancer will come back after treatment. Seeing a healthcare professional regularly can be reassuring and help with these feelings. But once treatment has finished, you might see them less often. This might increase your worries about your cancer.

Talking with someone about how you're feeling and all that you've been through can be helpful. It might be worth talking with your care team or clinical nurse specialist about this as some hospitals will have a specialist cancer psychologist that you can be referred to. It may be that there is an organisation such as Maggie's in your local area. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can.

I do hope that you can find some support to help you move forward Eric and that you continue to otherwise remain well.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
