Tai Chi - in shock waiting for cancer diagnosis

Have just been diagnosed either with secondary breast cancer or a second primary cancer. I have to wait 2/4 weeks to find out which. No symptoms as such but my legs feel like jelly as such a shock. Is this normal?

  • Hi Taichi,

Someone should have explained that many histology tests in the pathology lab often take up to a month to be completed.
Even when the NHS wasn’t under such pressure my own test results took between a week for the fastest and 4 weeks for the final result.

Sadly, there are backlogs of work across the UK which is slowing things down even more. This is because we haven’t trained enough medical scientists over the past twenty years to replace those retiring, quitting or emigrating - combined with a huge increase in the number of tests.

The waiting is always horrendous, I hope you get your results soon.

    Best wishes

    Dave

Thank you for responding. I have read your story which is really helpful. Three months ago I thought I was fit and well. Yesterday I discovered I had gone from stage 2 breast cancer to stage 4. Big shock Margaret
