Control over the Little Things - post op bulges!

Does anyone have any advice on getting rid of post op bulges?

Nearly 4 months after major abdominal surgery to remove a kidney & large tumour (they thought it was kidney cancer, but 8 weeks later when the histology finally came back I was told it was Liposarcoma Dedifferentiated) I still have some pain & discomfort which I expected; what I don't like is the bulging all around what is a large incision!

I appreciate it really doesn't matter in the scheme of things but it just feels like this - I can't control whether the cancer is still there (there were cells at the edge of the margin) and can't control whether it will metastasize, but maybe I can do something about this.

Maybe my age is against me (I'll whisper it, 68!) but I was fit, slim & annoyingly healthy, as my husband would remark on occasion, before this shock diagnosis.  The enforced inactivity post op was frustrating, but I have got back to doing my own housework & caring for my husband etc since (he suffers chronic widespread pain).

  • I'm sorry to hear about the bulging you have around the incision where you had your surgery, and for how this is making you feel.

If you haven't done so already, do be sure to discuss this with your GP and/or medical team as they will be in the best position to advise but until you can do so, we have a team of cancer nurses you can discuss this with as well on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're really easy to talk and will do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime, we're thinking of you PetiteChouette and are wishing you continued strength and progress with your recovery.

    Kind regards,
