I am taking immunotherapy at the mo, Palbociclib and Letrozole.
Few side effects but nothing major so can enjoy life even with stage 4 cancer.
Thanks for your reply , I’m glad you’re getting on ok with the treatment , is it a painful treatment ,ive read some pretty scary things about it ,
No not at all.
Everyone is different of course but for me, no pain. Try not to worry, you’ll be absolutely fine . When do you start treatment?
I’ve no start date yet , just got result back and surgeon said there was ‘ a few rogue cells ‘ have immunotherapy to get rid of any still lurking ! Made it all sound very casual .
You’ve given me a lot of reassurance now
thank you
If you need to chat again, drop me a message :)
You got this Cammie x
Hi Cammie,
The immunotherapy used for melanoma patients is nivolumab or ipilimumab or pembrolizumab or relatlimab. Sometimes only one type is used or sometimes a combination of two may be used. This link gives you more information https://melanomafocus.org/melanoma-patient-treatment-guide/melanoma-treatment/immunotherapy-treatment/
Some, but not all, patients may experience side effects from the treatment. You should be given all this information before starting on the treatment.
I don't know if you saw my message a few months ago - that gives you some information that you may find helpful.
Good luck,
Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
hi Angie I was quite disappointed to see that there are so many side effects I was hoping to carry on as normal , work ect .. still will have to see and chat with team when I get an appt , fingers crossed !
thank you for the info , it’s good to hear from people who are / have used the treatment
thanks
Most patients I know manage to work throughout their side effects which can be minimal. Hopefully you'll get away with having none or a very minimal one or two that don't affect your day to day living.
