New diagnosis of breast cancer. Now waiting for biopsy results

I’ve just been told that I have breast cancer. Bit of a shock to say the least. No history in the family and I wouldn’t say that I met any of the risk factors. It’s taken a few days to process the news and I’m now in that limbo stage whilst I await the results of the biopsy.
It’s helpful to hear about other people’s journey and I know that with the support of others, I can fight what lies ahead.

Thank you for replying.  Yes I feel a lot more positive now I have researched it and processed the information. I am trying not to catastrophise and to concentrate on the really positive treatment results these days.

Just wanted to jump in and say hello and your not alone - my partner was diagnosed in February and has had a full mastectomy and lymph node removal surgery yesterday. She’s 45 and although family history it was still a massive shock. She like you found the positive in learning about treatments and information about breast cancer. For us the waiting for results was the most challenging and most anxious time. My partner started journaling daily just to get her thoughts out was and is her therapy. The care of the hospital and nurses/ drs honestly has been out of this world. You will be in the best hands. We now are preparing for chemo and then can hopefully look forward again to the future.
Good luck and here if you want any more info about our experience so far X

Thank you. It’s really helpful and reassuring to hear from others. Friday is when I go back for the results and it sounds weird but I cannot wait. The not knowing is awful.
I wish your partner all the very best x

You are right, the waiting is awful. That’s why I am awake at 1am in the morning! Have breast cancer for the second time in nearly 5 years. Had biopsies, PET CT and MRI scan. Seeing consultant on 13th (my birthday) to get full results and plan. The waiting around is so stressful. Hope all goes well on Friday for you x

  • So sorry you have had a diagnosis and know exactly what you mean. Its terrifying despite knowing it is treatable at this point. I had my diagnosis 2 months and 2 days ago and had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy 2 weeks ago. Waiting is by far the worst thing apart from hearing that you actually have it. I am now waiting for the pathology from surgery and to find out if I am to proceed with radiotherapy or if anything else is needed. It all sucks.

Good luck with it all and I agree with what DaisyMP said about journaling. That has been helping me a lot. I don't do it every day, but it is a good way to get things off your chest.

    Anna x

  • Hi Anna, 5 years ago I had lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsies then 15 sessions of radiotherapy.  Also had Anastrazole and Letrozole which made my joints ache. All went really well. Almost time to be discharged then back again, it’s like reliving everything Hope you get good results from the pathology and keep in touch x

  • Hi there. I'm sorry to hear your diagnosis. I'm 6 months past the initial bad news and about to have a third surgery. You will be okay...they have so many ways to treat it now. May I ask what your diagnosis was? Mine was a 17mm invasive ductal carcinoma with lymph nodes involved. Make sure you seek support from here and Breast Cancer Now or Macmillan. Good luck on your treatment pathway. X

  • Thanks. My diagnosis is 23mm invasive ductal carcinoma  however lymph nodes are clear.
    surgery due beginning of June

  • Mine was 4cm and a 1cm invasive duct carcinomas. Still waiting to hear results on node biopsies. Thank you and good luck to all of you.
