Stage 4 Lung Cancer, how successful is Chemo?

I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at end of Nov 23 it had had already eaten through my vertebrae so I had to have an emergency back operation. This was successful so 14 days after, I started a targeted drug Selpercatnib which initially seemed to be working brilliantly. Unfortunately, recently my lungs started filling up with liquid which was cancerous. I am now in hospital having had both lungs drained and just recovering from a major (sepsis ) infection.

At the moment my only hope is chemo, how successful is it?

How I'll do people get on the first dose?

Has anyone had any different treatment?

Thank you

Jules

  • A very warm welcome to the forum Jules, although I'm really sorry to hear you have stage 4 lung cancer and what you have been through. It sounds like things have been very tough of late.

Hopefully some of our members who have the same diagnosis and are having chemo as part of their treatment will share their stories and advice with you soon, but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and address any worries or concerns you may have about having the chemo.

We're thinking of you Jules, and wishing you a speedy recovery in hospital.
