Plan going forward tomorrow

After first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and having a lumpectomy and radiotherapy all seemed to be going well until last month when I went to the GP with a lump in the other breast. Everything moved on quickly and 2 weeks ago I had mammograms and biopsies taken. Was told that day it wasn’t good news.
Seems like an eternity to wait but tomorrow I go to see the Consultant to find out my diagnosis and plan going forward. Feel so fed up having to go through it all again. Don’t think I will sleep much tonight. Hopefully when a plan is in place might feel better. Almost got to the 5 year mark and been taking Anastrazole/Letrozole all this time. Also have PET CT scan booked this week

  • Hi Mary,

We have an appointment for my Mum tomorrow to find out her plan. Diagnosis of Brain Tumor on Tues 23rd...

I cant focus on a thing, and haven't slept much since Tuesday.

Sending love for your appt x

  • Hi Nikki

Will be thinking of your mum and you tomorrow. Like you it’s hard to focus on anything. Hopefully for us both once we have a plan in place we might all get some sleep. What a worrying time.
    Keep in touch x

  • Gosh Mary, I remember you from 2019. What shocking news. You did so well last time and no doubt you'll show the same bravery and tenacity to take this on and come out the other side.x

  • Hi there Magpiemaggie yes I remember you too from 5 years ago and hope you are doing well. Saw the Consultant yesterday. Having PET CT tomorrow and need MRi (not sure why) have forgotten what he said.  Waiting to find out if HER2 positive as will need to have chemo before an op if that’s the case. Will get the results and plan in 2 weeks time (on my birthday) Take care of yourself x

  • Hope you got some sleep last night. Sounds like they are being really thourgh. As you've said the waiting can be unbearable but hopefully results will fast tracked and you know what you're dealing with.

    Take care x

  • Hi there MagpieMaggie managed a bit of sleep last night. Yes they are a good team I am under and still under the same Consultant as before as didn’t quite get to the 5 year mark. Have the PET CT tomorrow and waiting for a date for the MRI scan.

Can’t believe it is 5 years since we last met on here, before Covid struck too. Hope that you are doing well with your health x

  • Hi Mary

The years have flown by. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, it's been 6 years since my diagnosis and although treatment has had its challenges, I am now just dealing with thin bones and high cholesterol thanks to anastrozole.

I'm glad you got some sleep last night and remember if you need help then your GP will prescribe something to help.

I really hope the scans show good news and you can get straight onto treatment.

You are in my thoughts x

  • Hi there Magpiemaggie

Im awake at 4am so hence early morning reply. So pleased you are doing well 6 years down the line. Like you since being on Anastrazole/Letrozole I have joint problems, aching and some osteoporosis and it hasn’t seemed to stop the cancer returning anyway! Had my PET CT yesterday and got MRI next Wednesday. Will be glad to get to see Consultant on 13th to find out the plan. Going to tell our three grown up boys this weekend and try to reassure them all will be well. Was bad enough telling them the first time ️

You take care and keep in touch. Bye for now

    Mary x

  • Hi Mary

Sorry it was a disruptive sleep again for you last night. I can't imagine how painful it will be to tell your sons. I'm sure they will only be thinking of you and offer their love and support.

Hopefully you'll feel less anxious once you have your results and plan,

The side effects of anastrozole are wide ranging and I don't believe women are being properly managed while on it, I certainly wasn't.

We trust the medication will work but without tests being performed throughout treatment then how do we know whether it's working or not? I've been under dermatology for the past couple of years and see my consultant every six months, my treatment is checked to see if it's working, I get all my bloods checked as well but when it came to cancer, I haven't seen my consultant for 5 years, no dexa scan performed, no genetic testing, until year 5.

It's easy to see how things get missed.

Anyway, enough of my moan for the day, I'm always here if you want to chat xx

  • Sending you lots of strength when you tell yours sons x
