Having to move

Hi everyone,

where do I start? CMML diagnosed in 2015. 5 weeks ago it changed to AML. My Consultant is baffled by the speed of the progression.

chemotherapy starts in 4 days. My body is really struggling and my current home is not suitable (housing association). I’m on the housing list to find suitable accommodation with urgency.

Is there any support available with the actual move? I’m not able to physically do it myself and do not have the finances necessary to pay for it myself.

Many thanks

Nanna-Roo

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Nanna-Roo although I'm sorry to hear about your current housing situation that your CMML has now changed to AML. This must be a very difficult and stressful time.

After having a quick look in to this, you may be able to claim benefits to help you in your situation, and some financial assistance from other organisations as well. Macmillan have a Welfare Rights Advice line you can call to talk through your options.

You may also be eligible for DHB (Discretionary Housing Benefit) or Local Welfare Assistance. Both of these can be sought from your local council, with the latter potentially being allocated to help residents with moving costs.

There are also a number of charities and benevolent funds in the UK that may be able to offer monetary help. Although that said, do keep in mind that some of these are designed to offer aid to specific people. Citizens Advice may be able to assist you in finding an organisation that can help you.

Without knowing where you live, here is an example of the type of service you might find to help you move, but Age UK or Citizens Advice should be able to help you find similar services in your area.

I hope this helps Nanna-Roo and all goes well with that start of your chemo this week.

    Kind regards,
