Living with Cancer - resources?

Hello there. I had a laparoscopic partial removal of kidney surgery last week and am now recovering at home. I was only diagnosed with Grade 2 Kidney Cancer about 6 weeks ago so it's all been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

My question centres around living with this condition - I'm curious if people have found some resources / whatever that have helped them think about and frame their relationship to cancer on a daily basis?

I mean, have some people decided to go travelling, others to stay at home and see more of friends and family? It's interesting because I never thought my time was limited before, now I understand that it is (and always was).

Any thoughts on this would be most welcome

  • I'm sorry to hear about your kidney cancer diagnosis Timboat.

As you say, 6 weeks is a short amount of time to get your head around all of this so it's completely understandable, and natural, to be feeling a bit disorientated and overwhelmed at the moment.

I hope this section we have about mental health and cancer and living with kidney cancer will help you come to terms with your diagnosis, but if you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you at this time.

I'm sure some of our members will share their thoughts and advice with you soon, but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Timboat and wishing you all the best with your recovery.

    Kind regards,
