Chemotherapy

Waiting to start chemotherapy really nit looking forward to it

  • I was dreading chemotherapy as I think most people do but I have been pleasantly surprised. The nurses in my local hospital are just so friendly and supportive and they will any questions I have.

The treatment itself is painless apart, in my case, the cannula being put in my hand. My veins are not good at all so I am opting for a Picc line. This is being put in tomorrow (dreading it) just before my 4th chemo treatment.

Side effects for me have been mild.  No sickness and mild constipation. The main ones for me have been tiredness and a metallic taste in my mouth.

Sending you lots of luck x

  • My veins are not to good at the moment with being in hospital, I'm hoping I only have mild side effects.

Hope all just well for you tomorrow and going forward with your treatment

    Sending loads of love xx

  • Hi E-laine, I had my first chemo on the 4th March and the side  effects were minimal. I had a headache  for a couple of days and slight constipation. I have been going out with hubby for a 2 1/2 mile walk each day and have felt fine. I'm going onto a different chemo on cycles 4-7, which is apparently a bit harsher, so will have to see how that goes. My second cycle is on Monday and hopefully will be ok too. I wish you well moving forward. Xx

  • Depends on the Chemo drugs given, in I was lucky in no side affects in not sick or tired but with mine I had to take steriloids, they were the problem for me, so after 2 sessions of Chemo I stopped taking and was fine. Go into the chemo suite with positivity,, in the nurses talk hrough what going to happen and they are fantastic and will support you After Chemo go home get in bed and sleep off till following day and then just potter, if need to sleep, sleep in everyone's Chemo drugs different and bodies to so react different, but the positive is you have us as a network around you in not on own

  • I am glad you are getting on well with the chemotherapy, personally I am dreading starting the treatment and side effects. Although I have a good knowledge of the drugs I will be have I am still worried about the side effects. I have been very sad since my diagnosis of stage three rectal cancer and have had difficulty in getting motivation to do anything.

good luck with the rest of your treatment.
