Energy levels 5 months after ovarian cancer treatment finished. How long to return to normal

Hi.

Just joined

Firstly best wishes to all and strength to all dealing with this horrid illness.

My question seems very trivial after seeing other posts.

I finished my chemo for ovarian cancer in October. I'm still extremely tired. I'm back working 4hrs 4 days a week. I've been building it up slowly.

I find after work I'm exhausted and sleep. On Friday I have a duvet day as no energy. I do manage a little me time on Sat/Sun. Visit family, coffee etc.

I have tried doing small manual stuff but that knocked stuffing out of me for days. Only cut the grass.

How long does it take to feel normal again? Been 5months now since finished chemo.

Much love to all

  • Hello Babdogs,

First of all well done for finishing your chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer - it's totally understandable that you are still feeling tired and working 4 hours 4 days a week is quite significant too. I hope that you are enjoying your work and you are right to be building it up slowly. You are right to listen to your body and if your body tells you that you need to sleep after work then this little nap will help you recharge your batteries. You've been through a lot with chemotherapy treatment and your body needs time to heal fully and recover. A duvet day sounds like a good idea too but it must be a bit frustrating for you to be feeling so tired. I am glad you are managing to visit family and friends on weekends. Don't overdo it if you can if you really want to get back to a bit of normality - even cutting the grass can be exhausting and if someone in the neighbourhood can help you with that, don't hesitate to get all the help you need.

It's difficult to know really how long it takes to feel normal again as everyone is very different and will react differently to the treatment. Do talk to your medical team though about this tiredness and how you've been feeling I am sure they will have some good tips for you and that they will be able to give you more of an indication of how long it might take for you to feel better and less tired. Feel free also to talk things through with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - they will have some good advice for you I am sure. Their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that your energy levels improve soon and that you will hear from other members who have been affected by treatment in a similar way and that they will drop by and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
